I was thinking about how nice a pair of 'leather gaiters' would be for riding a motorcycle for some time. It turns out, they're called 'half chaps' or 'short chaps' in biker apparel lingo. I bought these on sale. They're marketed as being 'for women' but I am a man and they don't feel or look out of place on me. The leather is sturdy, exactly what I would expect from Milwaukee leather. I live in northern Michigan and it gets pretty cold. Lots of rain and a lot of unpaved roads so my legs have taken a beating while riding before. I'll likely wear these with my steel toes over a pair of jeans. I think the sizing is awkward. I bought a size medium/large. I probably could've gotten away with a small. I might have to alter the Velcro straps slightly for these to fit perfectly. I am 5'8' and 145 pounds. I don't have chicken legs but I am not particularly muscular either. They sit just below my ankles and just above the knee. I also think it would be great to have another means of fastening the bottom, aside from the zipper and a single snap. But it's nothing I can't do with a needle and thread. Overall, I am expecting these to provide warmth and comfort for my shins and ankles, and I expect them to last a long time, with the normal leather maintenance.
