This vest is well made, worth the SALE price and looks great, but a 3XL is more between and XL and 2XL, I definitely fit in 2XL easily and the vest on me is SNUG. My friend tried it on, he wears 3XL and the space in front to close was about 4 inches + snap. I don't know about leather? I have leather jackets over 20 years old that still smell like leather, this vest had absolutely NO smell right out of the bag it came in. Maybe Vegan (Faux) leather. Also no tag of any type sewed in that might describe the type of leather, only a sewed tag said 3XL and from Pakistan. Only an attached tag on one of those plastic tie things that said cowhide, but doubt it as the pattern in the leather is too uniform. Just be fully informed before you buy, I am keeping it and will lose a pound or two to get my concealed weapon into it without showing. For a Tall size, that part was fine.
